I hope you are able to find all the answers to your questions here. As always I am more than happy to answer any additional questions you might have. What is a “Doula”?

Doula is a greek word which means, "to mother the mother". A doula is trained and experienced in childbirth, who provides continuous physical, emotional, and informational support to a woman and her birth partner during labor, birth and the immediate postpartum period.

As a doula, I provide:

* Physical comfort via relaxation techniques, massage,
positioning suggestions, etc.

* Unconditional and continuous emotional support

* Information and assistance in making informed birth decisions

I am a birth doula with DONA international. That means I am part of the largest doula association in the world and DONA has set the standard for birth doulas. I believe this education has made it possible for me to assist you in achieving the best possible birth experience. Penny Simkin, a leader in the field of childbirth, has found that women who are most satisfied with their birth experience have these elements in common:
• Feelings of personal accomplishment
• Feeling in control
• A sense of increased self-esteem and self-confidence
• Positive memories of their health care providers

Continuous birth doula support increases your feelings of accomplishment as you and your partner put your knowledge and intuition to work during your baby's birth. Penny's research also found that being supported to work confidently and in partnership with your health care providers increases self-esteem that can last a lifetime.

If you want to know more about the certification process for a birth doula through DONA which will give you an idea of the training involved, I am happy to provide you with that information. I truly love my job and feel so blessed to be a part of each and every birth!
